The t-shirts said, “Live Generously”.  They were a gift from one of our Lancer Locker sponsors, Thrivent Financial, but they spoke so much more to me.

Middle and High school students worked together to host the Back to School Night.

Lancer Locker was born ten or or more years ago out of the desire to live more generously.  It was the result of three teenagers coming back from a mission trip and wanting to do more for their own community, and it lives on.  Every year, the youth organize supply collections and host a Back to School Night. They sort, collect, buy and give away dozens of backpacks filled with notebooks and markers to kids in need.  This year is on par to be a record number of supplies given away, and the word about our ministry is spreading to our friends in Caledonia and La Crosse.  This, of course, could not happen without people in our church and community who live generously. For that, we are grateful.  From the stories shared at Back to School Night by some of our guests, I can confidently say they are also grateful.  Those backpacks represented more than the start of school.  For some, they represented hope.  For others, comfort, or relief.  Whatever those backpacks meant to each of our guests, we will never fully know, but it was more than notebooks to all.

Carole, Judy and Curly helped each child pick out just the right outfit for their first day of school!

Anyone with school-aged children knows that the right outfit means the world to kids on their first day of school!  The Clothes Closet was another active room in the church at the Back to School Night event.  A new outfit, along with several pair of socks and underwear were given to each of the 37 children who came by.  The reward was watching the children carefully choose their new outfit and hug it! Special orders for color and size were taken for those we were unable to fit. Our hope is that every child will feel better on the first day of school with something new to wear.

Back to School Night could not have been possible without those who choose to live generously: Thrivent Financial, along with the Ladies Christmas luncheon and cookie walk groups, and your private donations.  Thank you!!
