Discipleship

18 Then Jesus came to them and said,“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with youalways, to the very end of the age.” This is the direction as given in Matthew 28:18-20 (New International Version (NIV)). We are commissioned to be the hands and feet of Jesus.

Find God, Know God, Share God

The people of the La Crescent UMC work hard to learn and serve within small groups within the church. We also support missions locally and in the US and around the world.

Pastor at pulpit with the vision statement on the screen behind him.

Hello Church Family, the HCI team has worked hard over the last several months on a vision statement. Much of the info here comes from submitted information. As you read along, you’ll find that I decided to include a link to today’s sermon from Pastor as he introduced us to our new vision. Vision Statement We are happy to report that at our last Healthy Church Initiative meeting on September 29th, our Vision Team (which has expanded in recent months to include Mindy Kearney and several more church council members) decided enthusiastically......

Chicken-Q

What comes once a year, smells and tastes delicious, requires over 40 volunteers of all ages to put on, and generates a lot of “buzz” in the community and our church?  It must be the Annual Applefest Chicken Que! History Each year, for many years, LUMC has been hosting a chicken que at the fest grounds of Applefest.  Back in the 90’s, the men of our church cooked chickens over grills, with a “special” basting sauce and people like Sheri and Mike Wert helped coordinate pie baking and selling, home made BBQ......

3 ladies are around a large table filled with nice clothes for children.

The Clothes Closet started in about 2001 when someone noticed a need amongst school-aged children needed clothes. The clothes closet started after finding a room at the church to host the closet. Donations The Closet is often in need of new or slightly used clothes for school-aged children. Clothing donations can be clean, folded and current children styles.  Cash donations are used to buy new socks and underwear and a new outfit for each student. The time of highest need is in August. Back to School Night Supplies More Than Notebooks

The t-shirts said, “Live Generously”.  They were a gift from one of our Lancer Locker sponsors, Thrivent Financial, but they spoke so much more to me. Lancer Locker Lancer Locker was born ten or or more years ago out of the desire to live more generously.  It was the result of three teenagers coming back from a mission trip and wanting to do more for their own community, and it lives on.  Every year, the youth organize supply collections and host a Back to School Night. They sort, collect, buy and give......

A woman who is missing her legs uses her arms to propel a tricycle.

In Matthew 25:40, Jesus said, “Whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me..” In this case, the least of our brothers are those who cannot walk – those in other countries who use their hands to move through dirt streets. Volunteers from the church are being the hands and feet of Jesus through Personal Energy Transportation (PET) International. (PET International can be found on social media on Facebook or on Twitter at @GiftofMobility.) La Crescent UMC participates with PET, MN-Twin Cities to produce the wood portion of the PET pictured here and......

Walk to Emmaus us is such a great and potentially life changing experience of Christian community.  My wife, Debbie, and I, did our walk 15 years ago, and more than a dozen from our church have gone at various times.  A reunion group meets the first Sunday of every month, for a pot luck, and fellowship time at noon.   If you have not made your Walk, and would like to know more about this adult Christian renewal weekend, call Rick or Linda Thrune at 507-643-6320. Twin Cities Serve

We recently had thirty people (twenty-two youth and eight adults) head up to the Twin Cities to serve. Our first day, we went to Feed My Starving Children, a four-year favorite, to pack food for starving children. We packed 96 boxes of food, which will feed 57 kids for a whole year! The second day, we spent the better part of the day weeding and remulching the gardens at an affordable housing complex before heading back to our host church to help with a low rate food assistance program and serve at......
