Help Us Fill Hurricane Relief Buckets

Now is your chance to be a part of hurricane relief efforts! Gather up the needed cleaning supplies and help us put together cleaning kits to be sent to UMCOR.  Each kit will include very specific items needed for families to safely clean and disinfect their homes following the flooding that we have seen in the southern states.  You may contribute individual items for the kits, monetary donations, or complete kits, but we ask that you follow the standards set by UMCOR if you are providing supplies.  A complete detailed list can......

One small hand reaches in to get a sandwich, apple slices, yogurt and carrots

The Lunch Wagon is a summer lunch program that is geared to serve the children in the La Crescent and Hokah communities every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer! The original heart behind this program was to pick up where the free and reduced lunch programs during the school year leave off after school is out for the summer. Now in its 4th summer, the lunch wagon is larger than ever! The Lunch Wagon is a ministry of the La Crescent UMC. As I wrote about last summer, The Lunch Wagon was featured at......

Every month the ministry team visits the men for a hymn sing. For about 30 minutes we sing random hymns chosen by the singers. This choir of sorts is blessed to have an accompanist to help us stay on tune. For six of our visits we bring treats or dessert. The men are remembered on their birthdays, Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas with gifts and goodies. For our November visit, which falls near Veteran’s Day, we prepare and serve their noon meal. Our visits are scheduled for the second Sunday of each......

It's Operation Christmas Child Time!

Many of you are aware of my love for the shoe box gift project that I do with the children here each year. It’s called Operation Christmas Child, and simply put, it is a Christmas gift in a shoe box.   Why do I love OCC so much?  While I am fully aware that Christmas is not about the gifts, I can’t imagine as a child not receiving a gift on Christmas.  It is so important to me that the children who receive our gifts know someone loves them and thinks about them,......

Charlie working outside of his garage with PET parts scattered around.

La Crescent UMC is pleased to announce that the most recent Jefferson award winner is our very own Charlie Hinders. Charlie’s Jefferson award is for his work building mobility carts in his backyard. WXOW has Charlie’s story on again at 10pm. Charlie’s Garage has a Higher Purpose A few years ago, Charlie Hinders had just built a garage as his retirement man cave, when he was inspired by a message he heard at La Crescent United Methodist church. The message was from a PET international representative. They were looking for help building cart......

Mission Trip Fundraiser Breakfasts

Mission Trippers We had a really great mission trip meeting for senior high students last Wednesday that generated some new ideas for fundraising – breakfast before church! The first FUNdraiser we are doing is a hot breakfast before church. We are looking for 5-7 youth and their parents to help make some of the breakfast items, as well as serve and clean up. Tyler or Alexa will be heading this up each time we do it with a small number of kids so the rest can attend Sunday School that week. This will......

Pastor at pulpit with the vision statement on the screen behind him.

Hello Church Family, the HCI team has worked hard over the last several months on a vision statement. Much of the info here comes from submitted information. As you read along, you’ll find that I decided to include a link to today’s sermon from Pastor as he introduced us to our new vision. Vision Statement We are happy to report that at our last Healthy Church Initiative meeting on September 29th, our Vision Team (which has expanded in recent months to include Mindy Kearney and several more church council members) decided enthusiastically......
