Youth

Our Youth Ministry is a vibrant part of our church family here at La Crescent UMC. Through Bible study, fellowship, missions trips and service projects, we aim to train young people to be disciples to the La Crescent community and the world.

The Clubhouse

The Clubhouse ministry consists of two opportunities for growth and learning for ages 4 through grade 4:

Sunday School — meets Sunday mornings during the school year at 8:45 with opening prayer time, announcements and discussion about our monthly offering project. We also introduce a piece of the Bible story that will be shared in our rotation model Sunday School classes.

Clubhouse Kids — meets Wednesday nights during the school year from 6:30-7:30 in the Clubhouse. Join us for more opportunities to grow in faith. Currently, the Clubhouse Kids are doing The Story Bible study, using games, crafts and other activities to engage in the Bible story.

Youth Group Meetings

Middle School Youth Group is held on Wednesday evenings during the summer from 4:00-6:00 pm at the church. Youth in 5th-8th grade are invited to be a part of the middle school group.

Senior High Youth Group for students in 9th-12th grade is held on Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:30.

Confirmation classes are held from September through April. Students typically begin confirmation class in 8th grade and finish in the spring of their 9th grade year. For more information about confirmation, speak to Pastor Greg or Mindy Kearney.

Youth Mission Trips

Just as Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, we too, wash feet! Every summer our youth participate in hands-on mission trips that teach them about serving others in the world and how to share the gospel message with those we meet. There are multiple opportunities for youth in middle school through high school in the summer.

Parable--Small Story, Big Idea

I’ve always loved the Parables… these small stories that Jesus told to get across a big idea. They are almost like reading an Encyclopedia Brown book, aren’t they?  Let’s see…. what are the hidden clues in this one?  If Jesus wasn’t really talking about sheep or a mustard seed, then what was he talking about?  During Lent this year, we are going to take a deeper look at a sampling of the parables to uncover their hidden meanings.  Some of them will be familiar to you; some will be less known.  The......

It's Operation Christmas Child Time!

Many of you are aware of my love for the shoe box gift project that I do with the children here each year. It’s called Operation Christmas Child, and simply put, it is a Christmas gift in a shoe box.   Why do I love OCC so much?  While I am fully aware that Christmas is not about the gifts, I can’t imagine as a child not receiving a gift on Christmas.  It is so important to me that the children who receive our gifts know someone loves them and thinks about them,......

Mission Trip Fundraiser Breakfasts

Mission Trippers We had a really great mission trip meeting for senior high students last Wednesday that generated some new ideas for fundraising – breakfast before church! The first FUNdraiser we are doing is a hot breakfast before church. We are looking for 5-7 youth and their parents to help make some of the breakfast items, as well as serve and clean up. Tyler or Alexa will be heading this up each time we do it with a small number of kids so the rest can attend Sunday School that week. This will......

Pastor at pulpit with the vision statement on the screen behind him.

Hello Church Family, the HCI team has worked hard over the last several months on a vision statement. Much of the info here comes from submitted information. As you read along, you’ll find that I decided to include a link to today’s sermon from Pastor as he introduced us to our new vision. Vision Statement We are happy to report that at our last Healthy Church Initiative meeting on September 29th, our Vision Team (which has expanded in recent months to include Mindy Kearney and several more church council members) decided enthusiastically......

3 ladies are around a large table filled with nice clothes for children.

The Clothes Closet started in about 2001 when someone noticed a need amongst school-aged children needed clothes. The clothes closet started after finding a room at the church to host the closet. Donations The Closet is often in need of new or slightly used clothes for school-aged children. Clothing donations can be clean, folded and current children styles.  Cash donations are used to buy new socks and underwear and a new outfit for each student. The time of highest need is in August. Hours The Clothes Closet is open on request and on Back to School......
