Church History

About Us…

Methodism goes back to the 1700s and the teachings of John Wesley, who taught of putting faith into action. If you want to know more about our denomination and what it means to be a United Methodist, there is a lot more to read and think about at the UMC website. . .or stop in and ask our Pastor!

La Crescent United Methodist Church has been a welcoming congregation in La Crescent for over 150 years. Our church has a rich history in the town of La Crescent, MN. The La Crescent UMC is known in the community as the church that can respond well in crisis and also serves the needs of the less fortunate every day. We are known for showing “radical hospitality” to visitors, members, and the community.

Our members are passionate about discovering the word of God through a regular prayer life and ministry, through Bible study and yearning to know the word of God, and through inspiring sermons that are grounded in scripture. We are called to serve others and demonstrate ourselves as the hands and feet of Jesus through mission trips, nursing home and Mosher Home ministries and other service in our community such as our Clothes Closet, Lancer Locker, and Lunchwagon programs.

We will have a regional spiritual impact by bringing people to Christ through fervent and impassioned evangelism, and by equipping believers for the work of the ministry through biblical teaching and Spirit-led worship. Our goal is to produce strong, joyful Christians who apply their faith to daily living and thereby change the world in humility and love, through the power of the Holy Spirit.

We, the congregation of La Crescent United Methodist Church exist to bring people into a relationship with Jesus Christ; to strengthen the faith of believers through vital worship and faith forming care groups, and to send out faithful servants of Christ into the world.
