In the fall of 2003, we began the process of bringing Stephen Ministry to the La Crescent United Methodist Church. Stephen Ministry is one-on-one Christian care to individuals who are going through some type of crisis such as loss of a loved one, job loss, going though divorce, etc.
Members of the church go through 20 hours of training and then are certified as Stephen Ministers. After they become Stephen Ministers, then they can be paired with some who has requested a Stephen Minister. The person who the Stephen Minister meets with is typically referred to as the Care Receiver. The Stephen Minister will be with the Care Receiver for as long as the Care Receiver needs to meet.
